A Message from our Principal

I am honored to serve as the principal of Sitka High School and to be part of a school community that is deeply committed to its students. I bring decades of experience in education and school leadership, including many years serving in leadership positions in New Hampshire before moving to Alaska.

I joined the Sitka School District in 2015 as the assistant principal of Blatchley Middle School. I later served as principal of Sitka High School from 2017 to 2020 before returning to Blatchley. In 2024, I was grateful for the opportunity to return to Sitka High School as principal. My experience at both the middle- and high-school levels has helped me develop a strong understanding of students’ academic, social, and emotional needs throughout their secondary education.

My leadership philosophy is centered on relationships, equity, collaboration, and meaningful support for every student. I believe equity means providing each student with what they individually need to be successful rather than assuming that every student needs the same solution. During my previous time at Sitka High School, I helped establish a Saturday School program that provided students with tutoring, transportation, additional time to complete schoolwork, and a safe and supportive place to learn.

I believe effective school leadership is service-oriented and collaborative. I value the perspectives of students, staff, families, and community members, and I believe school leaders should work in support of the people they serve. My approach emphasizes listening, shared responsibility, practical problem-solving, and creating opportunities for students to discover and build upon their individual strengths.

Community partnerships are also an important part of my work. I value opportunities to connect Sitka High School students with local organizations, businesses, and industry partners through transition activities, classroom presentations, scholarships, extracurricular support, and career-awareness opportunities. These partnerships help students see how their education connects to future careers, community involvement, and life beyond high school.

I am proud to lead a school where students are known, challenged, supported, and encouraged to succeed. I remain committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and academically engaging environment in which every Sitka High School student has the opportunity to belong, grow, and prepare for a meaningful future.
